ROADSIDE TREASURES

Updated: Aug 29, 2019

My day is immediately MADE when I come across an abandoned antique on the side of the road! You'll see me smiling cheek to cheek, pulling a yewie and tossing the tailgate down! First obstacle is to muster enough strength to lift the old girl up! -I always have a pencil handy to number the drawers before removing to lighten the load -Walk her over and get as close to the truck as possible and count.. 1..2............3!

PUT PEN TO PAPER AND BREATH NEW LIFE INTO YOUR FIND!!

I always begin by first checking the piece over, looking for any signs of it's history. Year and location it may have been made and it's current state of function. Bringing my sketch book out always puts me in the zone... so many great possibilities with a solid piece like this.. -The veneer is unfortunately in pretty bad shape, but the drawers are in good working order.. just in need of a little wax along the rails. After stripping, sanding and staining the top a misty grey and painting the body out with an antique white comes the most difficult part! Waiting... for it all to dry and cure before I go at it with my sander and assorted tools to help give the piece a weathered look and feel. -It impresses me every time I finish a piece this way how wonderful it looks after it has been distressed; giving a glimpse of it's true age.
